{"id":1232,"date":"2017-07-12T17:08:02","date_gmt":"2017-07-12T17:08:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mhsi.com\/blog\/?p=1232"},"modified":"2020-04-27T10:45:00","modified_gmt":"2020-04-27T14:45:00","slug":"electronic-medical-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mhsi.com\/blog\/electronic-medical-records\/","title":{"rendered":"Electronic Medical Records"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Whether you call them\u00a0electronic medical records (EMRs) or electronic health records (EHRs), physicians were required by the U.S. government to implement an EMR system within their practice by 2014.\u00a0 EHRs were meant to provide a higher level of patient safety and interconnectivity between physicians and hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to 2017, and it is time for many physician practices and some hospitals to update to more robust EHRs, basically because the use of EHRs has out grown the initial capability of the software.<\/p>\n<p>The MHSI team has been working behind the scenes for the last year to prepare a new EMR system that works better for patients, physicians and billing.\u00a0 \u201cWe have targeted\u00a0Monday, Aug. 28\u00a0as our \u2018go live\u2019 date,\u201d explains Mary Martin, RN, clinical director at MHSI.\u00a0 \u201cOur patients will really like what this new EMR system can provide them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coming up:<\/strong>\u00a0Patients will need to input identification, insurance and health history into the new system. There will be several different ways to enter the information, including online and via an app.\u00a0 \u201cOne important message we want our patients to know at in this stage of implementation is they\u00a0<strong><em>should not<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0be concerned, all previous medical records remain in-tact and appointments and surgeries will not be interrupted, \u201d says Ms. Martin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stay tuned<\/strong>\u2026Over the summer\u00a0the MHSI staff are\u00a0training to use the new EMR.
